The short answer

The nine games at a glance

A growing number of PC players search for offline single player FPS games because they are tired of clicking Play in Steam only to be stopped by a secondary publisher launcher, a mandatory email login, an always online check or a seasonal battle pass popup. While building Iron Curtain Call as a solo developer in Istanbul, I kept the architecture as clean as nineties PC shooters: you launch the executable on Windows, macOS or Linux, it boots in seconds with zero account creation or internet requirement, and you play a handcrafted twelve chapter campaign.

If you want fast, pure offline single player shooters that install cleanly on a laptop or Steam Deck and work on a plane or train without WiFi, start with DUSK ($19.99), ULTRAKILL ($29.99, free demo on Steam), CULTIC ($9.99, free demo on Steam) and AMID EVIL ($19.99, free demo on Steam). If you want story rich offline campaigns with deep environmental detail, play Black Mesa ($19.99) and Selaco ($24.99). If you want atmospheric European retro shooters, play HROT ($19.99, free demo) and Forgive Me Father ($19.99). And if you want a 1930s rubber hose cartoon shooter that runs completely offline on Windows, macOS and Linux, try the free Steam demo of my game Iron Curtain Call (out 11 March 2027).

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you want a 1930s cartoon shooter that boots straight into the campaign with zero logins.

I built Iron Curtain Call as a pure offline single player campaign: no publisher launcher, no account sign in, no battle pass and no online telemetry gate. Once downloaded from Steam on Windows, macOS or Linux, Mission 1 plays completely offline, and the full twelve chapter campaign arrives on 11 March 2027. You can also test a 60 second sample in your browser at /play/.

Why offline matters on laptops and handhelds

A single player game should never ask permission from a server to start

Whether you are on a flight with a MacBook or a Steam Deck, or you simply want your game to still work ten years from now, shooters that boot straight from the executable without a secondary login respect the player’s machine and ownership.
