Satirical and dark humor FPS games: shooters that mock regimes and corporations

Iron Curtain Call in first person: a towering bureaucratic waiting room of ticket dispensers, filing cabinets and tin soldiers
Iron Curtain Call, chapter 11, Please Hold: the Endless Queue, where World War III is processed by ticket number.
The short answer

Deadpan bureaucracy, corporate slogans and fast guns.

A great satirical shooter does more than tell one liners: it builds a world whose posters, loudspeakers and weapons treat something absurd with deadpan seriousness. Whether that target is Cold War bureaucracy, corporate HR paperwork or television brainwashing, the joke works best when the gunplay underneath is razor sharp.

If you want deadpan bureaucratic satire in a fast 1930s cartoon shooter you can try free today, play the free Steam demo of Iron Curtain Call (out 11 March 2027 on Windows and macOS, demo on Linux too, plus a 60 second browser version and our working 1965 Customer Service rotary phone). If you want British comic book corporate prison bureaucracy, play Void Bastards ($29.99, Windows and macOS).

If you want loud, anarchic cartoon satire with a free demo, play POSTAL: Brain Damaged ($19.99, free demo), Anger Foot ($19.99, free demo) or High On Life 2 ($39.99, free demo). And for dark retro futuristic propaganda, look at We Happy Few ($59.99) and Fallout 4 ($19.99).

Ten satirical and dark comedy FPS games

Each card covers what the game satirizes, whether the comedy comes from worldbuilding or dialogue, and how the shooting holds up.

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you love deadpan Dr. Strangelove and Brazil style bureaucracy inside a fast 1930s cartoon shooter.

In Iron Curtain Call, nobody remembers who started World War III because the paperwork was misfiled. The country is run by the Supreme Chancellor, an automated customer service engine that treats air raids, rationing and lunar invasions as support tickets. Even your guns are weaponized paperwork: the Pink Slip pistol, the Typewriter submachine gun, the Care Package rocket launcher and the Hot Take flamethrower.

Instead of pausing the action for long dialogue trees, the comedy lives in the posters, the loudspeaker announcements, Colonel Panic’s radio one liners and the theatrical bosses you punch into scrap.

Play Mission 1 free in the Steam demo (Windows, macOS, Linux), play 60 seconds in your browser, or dial 1965 on our Customer Service line.

Hyperstrange and CreativeForge Games released POSTAL: Brain Damaged on 9 June 2022 ($19.99, free demo on Steam). Handing the series to a dedicated boomer shooter team transformed it: you grapple, slide and bunny hop through bright cartoon levels inside the Postal Dude’s head.

Much sharper level design and movement than older entries in the franchise, with a free Steam demo.

Fallout 4

1950s corporate nuclear propaganda · Vault Tec

Play it if you love exploring corporate vaults where smiling 1950s cartoon mascots explain horrific social experiments.

Bethesda’s Fallout 4 (9 November 2015, $19.99) pairs its post nuclear gunplay with Vault Boy instructional cartoons and pre war corporate terminals that treat nuclear annihilation as a quarterly sales opportunity.

A massive open world RPG; its Vault Boy cartoons share the DNA of BioShock and Iron Curtain Call.
