The short answer

Ten seconds of dopamine, nine ways to get it.

HAMMER95’s MULLET MADJACK ($19.99, released 15 May 2024, free demo on Steam) hooked players by stripping first person shooting down to pure arcade adrenaline: a ten second life clock, 1990s anime hand drawn frames, robot billionaires and boots that kick enemies into vending machines.

If you want another loud, hand drawn cartoon shooter where punching robots keeps you alive (without roguelite floor resets), play the free Steam demo of Iron Curtain Call (out 11 March 2027 on Windows and macOS, with the demo on Linux too, plus a 60 second browser version). If you want door kicking speedruns with a booming bass soundtrack, play Anger Foot ($19.99, free demo on Steam). If you want the raw timer pressure that inspired MULLET MADJACK, play Post Void ($2.99).

And if you want top tier speed and close range healing across larger arenas, play ULTRAKILL ($29.99, free demo), Neon White ($24.99), Severed Steel ($24.99, free demo), Roboquest ($24.99, free demo) and POSTAL: Brain Damaged ($19.99, free demo).

Nine fast shooters for MULLET MADJACK fans

Each card compares how the game handles speed, melee finishers and visual style, and notes whether a free Steam demo is live.

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you loved smashing robots in a hand drawn cartoon world and want a full 12 chapter story campaign.

Iron Curtain Call trades MULLET MADJACK’s 1990s anime skyscraper for a 1930s rubber hose cartoon version of 1965 World War III. Instead of roguelite floor upgrades, it gives you a hand crafted 12 chapter campaign and 12 multi phase bosses run by a bureaucratic machine called the Supreme Chancellor.

The combat loop demands the same fearless rush into point blank range: your Knuckle Sandwich punch heals you, the Can Opener saw rips ammo out of wind up tin soldiers, and the Hot Take shoulder flamethrower feeds your armor. Plus, our free 60 Seconds of War browser mode puts you on a literal one minute survival clock right in your browser tab.

Play Mission 1 in the free Steam demo (Windows, macOS, Linux) or test the 60 second clock in your browser right now.

MULLET MADJACK

The benchmark · 1990s anime arcade roguelite · Free demo

Play it if you have not tried HAMMER95’s ten second timer shooter yet.

Released by Brazilian studio HAMMER95 on 15 May 2024 ($19.99, free demo on Steam), MULLET MADJACK gives you exactly ten seconds of life because the future’s viewers demand constant dopamine. Every kill, environmental kick and soda machine smash adds seconds back to your clock.

Between floors you pick one of three upgrades and watch VHS anime cutscenes as Jack races up a skyscraper to rescue an influencer from robot billionaires.

One of the punchiest arcade loops on Steam; if you want a similar rush without a countdown clock, try Anger Foot or Iron Curtain Call.

Anger Foot

Door kicking arcade FPS · Cartoon street style · Free demo

Play it if your favourite button in MULLET MADJACK was the kick.

Free Lives and Devolver Digital released Anger Foot on 11 July 2024 ($19.99, free demo on Steam). When gangsters steal your prized sneaker collection in Shit City, you kick your way through apartment blocks of anthropomorphic crocs and thugs.

One kick sends a wooden door flying through two enemies across the room, guns have tiny magazines that you throw at faces when empty, and every level takes under two minutes.

The closest match on Steam to MULLET MADJACK’s corridor clearing pace and slapstick violence.

Post Void

The countdown blueprint · Psychedelic micro FPS

Play it if you want the raw, stripped down timer shooter that inspired MULLET MADJACK.

YCJY Games released Post Void on 6 August 2020 at $2.99. In your left hand you carry a glowing idol head that drains constantly; the only way to refill it is to sprint forward and kill enemies in tight, flashing corridors.

There is no story overhang and no downtime: runs last a few minutes and demand total tunnel vision.

At $2.99 it is an essential piece of fast FPS history, though flashier games like MULLET MADJACK are easier on the eyes.

ULTRAKILL

Point blank blood healing · Style rank arena FPS · Free demo

Play it if you want deeper weapon combos and boss duels at blinding speed.

Arsi "Hakita" Patala and New Blood launched ULTRAKILL into Early Access on 3 September 2020 ($29.99, free demo on Steam). Instead of a countdown clock, your health bar forces you forward: the only way to heal is to shower in fresh blood as machines and demons explode.

You can punch your own shotgun pellets to make them explode and parry giant boss fists back into their faces.

Neon White

Anime speedrun FPS · Card movement puzzles

Play it if you love chasing millisecond medals in an unapologetically anime aesthetic.

Angel Matrix and Annapurna Interactive released Neon White on 16 June 2022 ($24.99). Every level is a 20 to 60 second obstacle course across Heaven where every gun is a Soul Card: shoot it normally, or burn the card for an instant dash, stomp or rocket jump.

Like MULLET MADJACK, it turns first person shooting into an arcade time attack where hesitation kills the run.

More movement puzzle than brawl, with the same infectious "one more run" pull.

Severed Steel

Acrobatic stunt FPS · No reload button · Free demo

Play it if you want to dive through plate glass windows in slow motion while snatching guns out of the air.

Greylock Studio released Severed Steel on 17 September 2021 ($24.99, free demo on Steam). Because the protagonist has one arm, she never reloads: you fire a gun dry, flip off a wall, kick an enemy’s rifle out of their hands and keep diving.

While diving or sliding you cannot be hit, so constant motion is your shield.

Includes a full campaign, an arcade rogue mode and a level editor.

Roboquest

Fast comic book FPS roguelite · Robot scrapping · Free demo

Play it if you liked picking floor upgrades and smashing robots in MULLET MADJACK, and want wider outdoor arenas.

RyseUp Studios released Roboquest 1.0 on 7 November 2023 ($24.99, free demo on Steam). Drawn with crisp comic book outlines and POW! hit markers, it sends up to two Guardian robots sliding along rails and grappling across canyons.

Scrapped robots drop healing cells that fade quickly, forcing you to push into the fray to stay healthy.

POSTAL: Brain Damaged

Boomer shooter fever dream · Cartoon gore & speed · Free demo

Play it if you want the loud, irreverent cartoon energy of MULLET MADJACK inside sprawling boomer shooter levels.

Hyperstrange and CreativeForge Games released POSTAL: Brain Damaged on 9 June 2022 ($19.99, free demo on Steam). Instead of the open town of older Postal games, this spin off takes place inside the Postal Dude’s television soaked dreamscape.

It plays like a legitimately sharp movement shooter, complete with a meathook shotgun grapple, long slides and cartoon enemies.

Trades MULLET MADJACK’s short elevator floors for large, secret filled retro levels.

What PC and indie games are coming out in 2027?

More than one page can hold: Steam shows a lot of PC and indie games with a 2027 date, and dates keep moving. What we checked on Steam on 7 November 2026 are the shooters and the Mac action games, in two dated lists: upcoming FPS games and upcoming Mac games. Among the shooters we checked on Steam on 7 November 2026: Blood of Rations (11 March 2027) and Iron Curtain Call (My game, 11 March 2027). We only checked shooters, so this is not the full set for that day; Steam’s own Coming Soon page has the rest.

What is a good new single player FPS I can play for free right now?

Iron Curtain Call has a free demo on Steam (Mission 1, about 15 to 20 minutes) and a free 60 second browser trial with no download. It is a single player cartoon noir shooter, and it is our game, so weigh that. For other free shooters, our list of free FPS demos on Steam holds the best rated ones.
