Robot FPS games on PC: shooters where you fight machines on Steam

By Ekin, a solo developer in Istanbul, the one person behind Whale Development Studios and Iron Curtain Call. Published 8 November 2026. Every date, price, platform and demo below was checked on the US Steam store and Wikipedia on 8 November 2026; the sources are listed at the end.

Iron Curtain Call in first person: a cartoon glove punches a tin robot apart in a snowy night market, a shotgun in the other hand, under the comic words SHATTERED! and SHAKE WELL!
Iron Curtain Call, a real gameplay frame. Every enemy is a wind up tin robot that bursts into bolts, springs and scrap.
The short answer

Tin soldiers, rogue Soviet machines and combat mechs.

Fighting robots changes how a first person shooter feels: machines can lose limbs, spark, short circuit and shatter into gears and scrap Metal without human gore, or tower over you as armored mechs. The nine Steam games below put robots at the center of the combat, either as the army you dismantle or the machine you pilot.

If you want first person shooters where robots are the enemy army, Iron Curtain Call (my game, full release 11 March 2027, free demo on Steam now) pits you against an army of wind up tin robots run by a customer service AI in a 1930s cartoon 1965 World War III, Atomic Heart ($59.99, free demo) drops you into a 1955 Soviet research complex overrun by rebellious service and combat robots, Roboquest ($24.99, free demo) is a fast solo or co op roguelite FPS where a rebooted Guardian robot blasts through canyons of hostile machines, and MULLET MADJACK ($19.99, free demo) sends you up a skyscraper of robotic billionaires on a ten second life clock.

If you want killer machines and mechs across other styles, ULTRAKILL ($29.99, free demo) casts you as the blood fueled combat machine V1 fighting rival war machines and demons in Hell, Titanfall 2 ($29.99) pairs agile Pilot gunplay with giant intelligent Titan mechs, Wolfenstein: The New Order ($19.99) fills 1960s Europe with Panzerhunds and towering war robots, Retro Machina ($16.99) is a hand illustrated puzzle adventure in a city of only robots, and Iron Harvest ($29.99) puts 1920s dieselpunk mechs into real time strategy. Five of the nine had a free demo on Steam on 8 November 2026: Iron Curtain Call, Atomic Heart, ULTRAKILL, Roboquest and MULLET MADJACK.

The games

One by one, how each robot army fights.

Every entry below tells you whether you play as a robot, fight exclusively robots or fight a mix of machines and humans, and whether a free Steam demo is live. All facts were checked on 8 November 2026.

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you want a fast single player FPS where every single enemy is a wind up tin robot that bursts into springs and bolts, with no gore and a free demo.

Iron Curtain Call is my game: a single player cartoon noir first person shooter set in an alternate 1965, year three of World War III. Humanity ran out of soldiers, so the war is fought by wind up tin robots commanded by the Supreme Chancellor, a customer service machine that was handed a country. You play Corporal Punishment across twelve chapters, twelve mechanical bosses and eleven guns plus a freeze grenade.

Because every enemy is made of tin, clockwork and vacuum tubes, combat feedback is pure mechanical slapstick: shotgun blasts and punches knock springs, gears and bolts across the room with zero blood or gore, and punching staggered robots refills your health and ammo.

The free demo on Steam is Mission 1, Welcome to Rubbleton (about 15 to 20 minutes, ending with the giant tin general Major Disaster), for Windows, macOS and Linux; or play 60 seconds in your browser. The full game arrives on 11 March 2027.

Atomic Heart

Play it if you want a big budget single player FPS where 1950s Soviet robots have turned on their human makers, with a free demo.

Mundfish’s Atomic Heart (released 20 February 2023) drops you into Facility 3826 after its neural network turns civilian and military robots hostile, per Steam and Wikipedia. You dismantle mustachioed VOV A6 lab bots, spinning spherical bosses and towering mechanical guardians with guns, melee axes and electric or freezing glove powers.

If you want detailed mid century industrial robotics in a story driven shooter, it is the standout on Steam.

On Steam at $59.99, for Windows, with a free Windows demo on 8 November 2026. See also my Games Like Atomic Heart guide.

ULTRAKILL

Play it if you want to play as a war machine yourself and duel rival robots at blistering speed, with a free demo.

Arsi “Hakita” Patala’s ULTRAKILL (in Early Access since 3 September 2020) opens with the premise that mankind is dead, blood is fuel and Hell is full, per Steam and Wikipedia. You are the prototype combat robot V1, descending alongside and against other war machines (including your mirror rival V2, Swordsmachines, Guttermen and colossal Earthmovers).

Its combination of robot duels, projectile parries and grappling hook movement makes it one of the highest rated shooters on Steam.

On Steam at $29.99, for Windows, with a free Windows demo on 8 November 2026. See also my Games Like ULTRAKILL guide.

Roboquest

Play it if you want a bright, fast robot versus robot shooter with solo or two player co op and a free demo.

RyseUp Studios’ Roboquest (released 7 November 2023) puts you inside a rebooted Guardian robot fighting through procedurally arranged canyons of hostile machines, per Steam and Wikipedia. Every enemy is mechanical, there is no gore, and destroyed bots drop healing wrenches and cells that reward aggressive movement.

With dozens of futuristic energy weapons, grappling hooks and grind rails, it is a natural pick if you want pure robot target practice.

On Steam at $24.99, for Windows, with a free Windows demo on 8 November 2026.

Titanfall 2

Play it if you want a story bond with a giant intelligent robot companion and seamless Pilot to mech combat.

Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2 (first released in 2016, on Steam since 18 June 2020) centers its single player campaign on Rifleman Jack Cooper and BT 7274, a Vanguard class Titan mech, per Wikipedia. On foot you wall run past robotic Spectres and explosive Ticks; inside BT you swap heavy Titan weapon loadouts in real time.

Few shooters ever made capture the weight of climbing into a friendly war machine as well as Titanfall 2’s campaign.

On Steam at $29.99, for Windows, with no demo on 8 November 2026.

HAMMER95’s MULLET MADJACK (released 15 May 2024) pits human moderator Jack against floors of robotic billionaires in a retro anime future, per Steam and Wikipedia, with a ten second life timer refilled by every machine you wreck.

Every finisher is over the top mechanical cartoon violence, from kicking robots into soda machines to slicing them with katanas.

MachineGames’ Wolfenstein: The New Order (released 19 May 2014) backs up its human regiments with mechanical Panzerhunds, guard robots, Citadel walkers and the towering London Monitor, per Wikipedia.

Unlike Iron Curtain Call or Roboquest, most enemies are human soldiers, with the robots serving as armored heavies and bosses.

Orbit Studio’s Retro Machina (released 12 May 2021) is set in Endeavor, a glass domed retro futuristic city run entirely by automatons that throw out any robot with a defect, per Steam. Your discarded worker bot can wire into and control every other machine it meets.

It is an isometric action puzzle game rather than a first person shooter, included for players drawn to the mid century illustrated robot aesthetic.

Why robots work in shooters

Heavy hit feedback without blood or gore

One underrated perk of a robot shooter is that every hit can be loud and destructive without turning the screen into a slaughterhouse. In Iron Curtain Call and Roboquest, enemies are 100 percent mechanical: limbs fly off, springs uncoil and chassis burst into scrap metal with zero blood.
