FPS games with a grappling hook, dash and parry: nine movement shooters on Steam

The short answer

Which shooters give you a grapple, a dash and a parry?

A classic cover shooter punishes you for leaving your corner; a movement shooter punishes you for standing still. The nine first person games below give you a grappling hook, an air dash, wall running or a parry so that crossing the arena at top speed is how you survive.

Only a few shooters on Steam put a grapple, a dash and a parry in the same kit: ULTRAKILL ($29.99, free demo) gives you three stamina dashes, a Whiplash grappling arm and a Feedbacker fist that parries projectiles, and Iron Curtain Call (my game, full release 11 March 2027, free demo on Steam now) combines a dash, a grappling hook, a parry and a healing punch in a 1930s rubber hose cartoon war. DOOM Eternal ($29.99) pairs double jumps and double dashes with the Super Shotgun’s flaming Meat Hook grapple, while its prequel DOOM: The Dark Ages ($49.99) trades aerial dashes for the Shield Saw’s parry and shield charge.

For wall running, slides and grappling hooks, Titanfall 2 ($29.99) sets the benchmark for wall running and grapple momentum, Turbo Overkill ($19.99, free demo) adds a chainsaw leg slide to wall runs and a grapple, Roboquest ($24.99, free demo) brings grappling hooks and rails into a co op roguelite, Severed Steel ($24.99, free demo) turns wall runs and slow motion dives into bullet dodging, and Dying Light ($24.99) adds an unlockable grappling hook to first person rooftop parkour. Five of the nine had a free demo on Steam on 8 November 2026: Iron Curtain Call, ULTRAKILL, Turbo Overkill, Roboquest and Severed Steel.

The games

One by one, how each toolkit feels in play.

Every entry below spells out which movement tools are in the game, whether they are available from the start or unlocked later, and whether you can try a free demo on Steam first. Facts were read on 8 November 2026.

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you want a dash, a grappling hook, a parry and a healing punch inside a 1930s cartoon single player campaign, and you want a free demo first.

Iron Curtain Call is my game: a single player cartoon noir first person shooter set in an alternate 1965, year three of World War III. Humanity ran out of soldiers, so the war is fought by wind up tin robots run by the Supreme Chancellor, a customer service AI. You play Corporal Punishment across twelve chapters, twelve bosses and eleven guns plus a freeze grenade.

The movement toolkit is built to keep you moving forward: you dash out of crossfire, swing across carnival midways and industrial rafters with a grappling hook, parry incoming attacks in the full campaign, and punch staggered tin robots to burst them into healing bolts and ammo.

Be honest about what is in the demo versus the full game: the free Steam demo is Mission 1, Welcome to Rubbleton (about 15 to 20 minutes, ending with Major Disaster), where you have the dash, jump, punch and two guns; the grappling hook and parry belong to later chapters of the full game arriving on 11 March 2027. You can also play 60 seconds in your browser.

DOOM Eternal

Play it if you want a shotgun grappling hook that sets enemies on fire while you dash between arena tiers.

id Software’s DOOM Eternal (released 19 March 2020) attaches its grappling hook directly to the Super Shotgun: per Wikipedia, the Meat Hook pulls the Slayer straight toward a demon, and once upgraded it sets the target on fire so your point blank shotgun blast showers you in armor shards.

Combined with two air dashes, double jumps and horizontal swing bars, the Meat Hook turns every arena into a three dimensional loop.

On Steam at $29.99, for Windows, with no demo on 8 November 2026.

ULTRAKILL

Play it if you want the deepest combo sandbox of dashes, slides, grappling hooks and projectile parries on Steam.

Arsi “Hakita” Patala’s ULTRAKILL (in Early Access since 3 September 2020) gives you slide jumping and three dashes from the first level, a Feedbacker arm that parries enemy projectiles and even your own shotgun pellets, and a Whiplash grappling arm that pulls light enemies to you or pulls you to heavy ones, per Wikipedia.

Because healing only happens when you are close enough to catch blood spray, every movement tool serves close range aggression.

On Steam at $29.99, for Windows, with a free demo on 8 November 2026. See also my Games Like ULTRAKILL guide.

Titanfall 2

Play it if you want the smoothest wall running momentum in first person shooters, paired with a beloved single player campaign.

Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2 (first released in 2016, on Steam since 18 June 2020) pairs Pilot wall running, double jumping and slide hopping with giant Titan mechs, per Wikipedia. Its single player campaign builds entire levels around movement gimmicks (including the time shifting device in Effect and Cause), while its multiplayer lets you equip a dedicated Grappling Hook tactical ability to sling yourself over rooftops.

Note that the Grappling Hook is a multiplayer Pilot tactical rather than a campaign tool, though the campaign’s wall running and jump kit are among the best ever built.

Turbo Overkill

Play it if you want a chainsaw leg slide, wall running and grappling hooks in a long single player boomer shooter with a free demo.

Trigger Happy Interactive’s Turbo Overkill (released 11 August 2023) stacks movement tools on top of each other: per Steam, you slide through enemies on a chainsaw leg, double jump, air dash, wall run and fire a grappling hook to cross gigantic cyberpunk levels.

If you want every movement verb turned up to eleven in a single player campaign, start with its free Steam demo.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

Play it if you care more about parrying projectiles and shield charging than aerial grappling.

id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages (released 14 May 2025) intentionally slows down Eternal’s vertical air game and replaces it with the Shield Saw, per Steam and Wikipedia: you stand your ground, block, parry incoming green projectiles back at demons, and shield charge across the battlefield.

It is on this list for the parry half of the query rather than a grappling hook.

On Steam at $49.99, for Windows, with no demo on 8 November 2026.

Roboquest

Play it if you want grappling hooks, grind rails and fast dashes in a solo or two player co op roguelite with a free demo.

RyseUp Studios’ Roboquest (released 7 November 2023) equips your robot Guardian with high speed sprinting, sliding, grind rails and unlockable gadgets including a grappling hook and jetpack, per Steam and Wikipedia.

Each run remixes weapon affixes and movement upgrades, and a free demo lets you test the feel on Steam first.

Severed Steel

Play it if you want wall running, dives, flips and voxel destruction with a free Steam demo.

Greylock Studio’s Severed Steel (released 17 September 2021) skips the grappling hook in favor of pure gymnastics: wall running, sliding, diving through windows and doing backflips in slow motion while blasting holes through destructible walls with your arm cannon, per Steam.

Enemy bullets miss you whenever you are mid stunt, so chaining movement is how you stay alive.

On Steam at $24.99, for Windows, with a free Windows demo on 8 November 2026.

Dying Light

Play it if you want first person rooftop parkour and an unlockable grappling hook on Windows, macOS or Linux.

Techland’s Dying Light (released 26 January 2015) starts as grounded first person parkour across the quarantined city of Harran and rewards you higher up the Survivor skill tree with a Grappling Hook that pulls you straight onto rooftops and ledges, per Wikipedia.

It is the one game here that combines first person climbing and grappling with native Windows, macOS and Linux support on Steam.

On Steam at $24.99, for Windows, macOS and Linux, with no demo on 8 November 2026.

Why movement shooters pair dashes with melee healing

A grappling hook or dash is only half the design: if a game still hid health packs behind cover, players would grapple away from danger instead of into it. By tying health recovery to point blank punches (Iron Curtain Call, ULTRAKILL), Glory Kills (DOOM Eternal) or fading pickup cells (Roboquest), the game makes the grapple and dash your offensive opener.

For a dedicated breakdown of that healing loop, read my fast FPS games where melee and parrying keep you alive guide, or test the dash and punch right now in 60 seconds of Iron Curtain Call in your browser.

Questions

Questions players ask

Which FPS games on Steam have both a grappling hook and a dash?

DOOM Eternal (double dash plus the Super Shotgun’s Meat Hook), ULTRAKILL (three stamina dashes plus the Whiplash arm), Turbo Overkill (air dash plus grappling hook), Roboquest (dash abilities plus grappling hook) and Iron Curtain Call (dash, grappling hook, punch and parry across its full campaign, due 11 March 2027) all put both tools in one first person shooter.

Which FPS games have a parry mechanic?

ULTRAKILL lets you parry projectiles and melee attacks with the Feedbacker fist, DOOM: The Dark Ages builds its combat around parrying with the Shield Saw, and Iron Curtain Call includes a parry alongside its dash, grapple and healing punch in the full game arriving on 11 March 2027.

Which movement shooters on this list have a free demo on Steam?

On 8 November 2026 five of the nine games had a free demo on Steam: Iron Curtain Call (Windows, macOS and Linux, plus a 60 second browser trial), ULTRAKILL (Windows), Turbo Overkill (Windows), Roboquest (Windows) and Severed Steel (Windows).

Is the grappling hook in the Iron Curtain Call demo?

No: the free Steam demo is Mission 1, Welcome to Rubbleton (about 15 to 20 minutes, ending with Major Disaster), where you use the dash, jump, healing punch and two weapons. The grappling hook and parry unlock in later chapters of the full twelve chapter campaign on 11 March 2027.

Which FPS games with parkour or a grappling hook run on a Mac?

On 8 November 2026 Steam listed macOS support for Dying Light ($24.99) and for Iron Curtain Call (both the free demo and the upcoming full game).

What PC and indie games are coming out in 2027?

More than one page can hold: Steam shows a lot of PC and indie games with a 2027 date, and dates keep moving. What we checked on Steam on 7 November 2026 are the shooters and the Mac action games, in two dated lists: upcoming FPS games and upcoming Mac games. Iron Curtain Call, our own cartoon noir shooter, is due 11 March 2027 on Windows and macOS, and its free demo is on Steam now.

What games release on 11 March 2027?

Among the shooters we checked on Steam on 7 November 2026: Blood of Rations (11 March 2027) and Iron Curtain Call (My game, 11 March 2027). We only checked shooters, so this is not the full set for that day; Steam’s own Coming Soon page has the rest.

What is a good new single player FPS I can play for free right now?

Iron Curtain Call has a free demo on Steam (Mission 1, about 15 to 20 minutes) and a free 60 second browser trial with no download. It is a single player cartoon noir shooter, and it is our game, so weigh that. For other free shooters, our list of free FPS demos on Steam holds the best rated ones.
