The short answer

The ten games at a glance

Players searching for games like Dishonored and DEATHLOOP want first person action that refuses to look or play like a standard military shooter: exaggerated painterly or illustrated character silhouettes, clockwork regime architecture, a physical kick or traversal gadget that sends guards flying off ledges, and two handed combat combos. I am building Iron Curtain Call as a solo developer in Istanbul around a sixties Cold War Soviet puppet regime, a heavy boot kick, a grappling hook and hand inked rubber hose rubber hose characters, so I gathered the ten best stylised first person action games on Steam.

If you want the direct studio lineage behind Dishonored and DEATHLOOP, play Prey ($29.99), BioShock Remastered ($19.99) and BioShock Infinite ($29.99). If you want a stylised 1960s British dystopia with theatrical masks and propaganda speakers, play We Happy Few ($59.99). If you want hand drawn crime noir where you kick goons through windows and throw whatever is on the desk, play Fallen Aces ($14.99, free demo on Steam). And if you want a sixties Cold War Cold War regime drawn in rubber hose rubber hose ink where you kick, parry and grapple across theatrical stages, play the free Steam demo of my game Iron Curtain Call (releasing 11 March 2027).

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you want my game.

I am building Iron Curtain Call for players who love the exaggerated character art, loud loudspeaker personalities and physical close quarters kicks of Dishonored and DEATHLOOP, distilled into a pure action shooter. Set in sixties Cold War Slobovia (just two years after DEATHLOOP’s sixties Cold War radar bunkers), every stage is hand inked in rubber hose rubber hose style. You parry incoming projectiles, kick clockwork guards into hazards, swing across arenas with a grappling hook and dual wield vintage steel.

Dishonored

Play it if you want the clockwork stealth benchmark.

Arkane Studios’ Dishonored gave every guard and aristocrat in Dunwall the carved, exaggerated proportions of a 19th century political illustration. Whether you play as a ghost on the rooftops or parry swords in the street before kicking a Tallboy’s fuel tank, its responsiveness remains unmatched.

DEATHLOOP

Play it if you want retro retro island & kicks.

DEATHLOOP takes Dishonored’s Blink and dual hand combat, speeds them up for loud gunfights across a sixties Cold War island, and adds a heavy front kick that sends Eternalists flying off cliffs while Julianna taunts you over the radio.

BioShock Remastered

Play it if you want two handed plasmid + gun combos.

Before Corvo combined a pistol in his right hand with supernatural powers in his left, BioShock Remastered established the two handed rhythm of shocking or igniting an enemy with your left hand and finishing them with a shotgun in your right.

BioShock Infinite

BioShock Infinite trades dark corridors for sunlit turn of the century propaganda plazas where you leap onto overhead Sky Lines with a magnetized hook, drop onto clockwork Motorized Patriots and combine Vigors with firearms.

Prey

Play it if you want arkane’s retro space station.

Made by Arkane’s Austin team, Prey shares Dishonored’s belief that every locked door should have five solutions: climb a trail of hardened GLOO foam, transform into a coffee cup to roll through a window slot, or fire a foam dart at a touchscreen.

We Happy Few

Play it if you want retro smiling regime satire.

If you loved the mod sixties aesthetic of DEATHLOOP and the plague policed streets of Dishonored, We Happy Few drops you into sixties Wellington Wells, where giant Uncle Jack television screens demand that every citizen wear a plastic grin.

The Darkness II

Play it if you want four handed execution flow.

The Darkness II gives you the most aggressive multi hand combat loop outside of Arkane’s catalog: two firearms in your hands and two demon tentacles on your shoulders that grab shields, slice lightbulbs to keep you in shadow and impale mobsters.

Fallen Aces

Play it if you want hand drawn stealth & kicks.

Built by Trey Powell and Jason Bond, Fallen Aces marries rubber hose comic strip art to Dishonored style rooftop exploration and barroom brawling: sneak through vents, eavesdrop on goons, or kick a gangster down a stairwell and throw a cash register at his partner. Free demo on Steam.

Where my game fits

Where Iron Curtain Call fits if you love Dishonored and DEATHLOOP

Here is how my solo developed shooter Iron Curtain Call connects to the things players love in Dishonored and DEATHLOOP:

sixties Cold War Cold War satire with theatrical bosses. Like DEATHLOOP’s sixties Visionaries and Dishonored’s corrupt regents, Slobovia’s ministries are run by larger than life theatrical bosses drawn in rubber hose rubber hose ink.

A heavy front kick, parry and grappling hook. Every fight combines gunplay with a boot kick that launches clockwork soldiers into hazards, a real time parry and a grappling hook.
