The short answer

The nine games at a glance

Few settings in PC gaming have a stronger sense of place than Eastern Bloc and Soviet inspired first person shooters: monumental concrete plazas, flickering metro tunnels, classified Cold War laboratories and state propaganda posters peeling off bunker walls. While building Iron Curtain Call as a solo developer in Istanbul, I took that monumental 1965 Iron Curtain visual vocabulary (red banners, state railways, Ministry of Truth loudspeakers) and filtered it through 1930s rubber hose animation and fast boomer shooter combat.

If you want atmospheric survival and narrative shooters set in post Soviet exclusion zones and ruined railways, start with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat ($19.99), Metro Exodus ($29.99) and Chernobylite Complete Edition ($29.99). If you want alternate history Soviet science facilities and time manipulation bunkers, play Atomic Heart ($59.99) and Singularity ($29.99). If you want fast retro shooters soaked in Eastern European brutalism, play HROT ($19.99, free demo on Steam) and VLADiK BRUTAL ($11.99). And if you want a 1965 Iron Curtain shooter drawn like a 1930s cartoon with a free demo on Windows, macOS and Linux right now, play my game Iron Curtain Call (out 11 March 2027).

More than one page can hold: Steam shows a lot of PC and indie games with a 2027 date, and dates keep moving. What we checked on Steam on 7 November 2026 are the shooters and the Mac action games, in two dated lists: upcoming FPS games and upcoming Mac games.
