A white gloved cartoon hand parrying and punching a tin robot soldier in Iron Curtain Call
In Iron Curtain Call, a well timed punch parries enemy attacks and breaks wind up tin robots into health and ammo pickups. Free demo on Steam.
The short answer

The nine games at a glance

A projectile parry changes how you look at every enemy in a first person shooter: instead of hiding behind a crate when a boss fires a glowing orb at your face, you step into its path and swat it back at double speed. When I built Iron Curtain Call as a solo developer in Istanbul, I made parrying and close range melee finishers the core of the survival loop: your white gloved cartoon punch deflects incoming fire and pops staggered wind up tin robots into springs, health and ammunition.

If you want the deepest projectile parry and melee finisher systems in first person shooters today, start with ULTRAKILL ($29.99, free demo on Steam), DOOM: The Dark Ages ($49.99) and DOOM Eternal ($29.99). If you want sword deflects, chainsaw slides or environmental finishers, play Bright Memory: Infinite ($19.99), Turbo Overkill ($19.99, free demo on Steam) and MULLET MADJACK ($19.99, free demo on Steam). If you want disarm kicks or headbonk melee builds, play Severed Steel ($24.99, free demo) and Roboquest ($24.99, free demo). And if you want a 1930s rubber hose cartoon shooter where parrying and punching tin soldiers fuels your whole arsenal, try the free Steam demo or 60 second browser trial of my game Iron Curtain Call (releasing 11 March 2027).

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you want a 1930s rubber hose cartoon shooter where parries and punches keep your guns fed.

In Iron Curtain Call, your white gloved left hand is never idle. Timing a punch just as a wind up soldier or boss attacks parries the blow back into their gears, and finishing off staggered robots showers the arena with health and ammunition. You can test the parry and punch loop right now in the free Steam demo on Windows, macOS and Linux, or in the 60 second browser trial at /play/.

Why parries belong in shooters

A parry turns enemy projectiles into your own ammunition

In a shooter without a parry, enemy projectiles are just red zones you have to walk around. In ULTRAKILL, DOOM: The Dark Ages and Iron Curtain Call, an incoming projectile is a weapon the enemy just handed you, provided you have the nerve to stand your ground and hit the button on time.

What PC and indie games are coming out in 2027?

More than one page can hold: Steam shows a lot of PC and indie games with a 2027 date, and dates keep moving. What we checked on Steam on 7 November 2026 are the shooters and the Mac action games, in two dated lists: upcoming FPS games and upcoming Mac games. Iron Curtain Call, our own cartoon noir shooter, is due 11 March 2027 on Windows and macOS, and its free demo is on Steam now.

What games release on 11 March 2027?

Among the shooters we checked on Steam on 7 November 2026: Blood of Rations (11 March 2027) and Iron Curtain Call (My game, 11 March 2027). We only checked shooters, so this is not the full set for that day; Steam’s own Coming Soon page has the rest.

What is a good new single player FPS I can play for free right now?

Iron Curtain Call has a free demo on Steam (Mission 1, about 15 to 20 minutes) and a free 60 second browser trial with no download. It is a single player cartoon noir shooter, and it is our game, so weigh that. For other free shooters, our list of free FPS demos on Steam holds the best rated ones.
