Theatrical cartoon weaponry and wind up tin soldiers in Iron Curtain Call
Instead of military rifles, Iron Curtain Call gives you a Snow Globe freeze grenade, a Telegram lightning caster and a white gloved fist. Free demo on Steam.
The short answer

The nine games at a glance

What makes AMID EVIL and Wizordum stand out from military shooters is that every weapon in your hands is an imaginative, theatrical toy, whether it is a staff that fires miniature planets or a spellbook that freezes goblins solid, inside levels painted with bold, unashamed colour. While building Iron Curtain Call as a solo developer in Istanbul, I designed my arsenal with that exact spirit: instead of grey assault rifles, you wield a Snow Globe that freezes tin soldiers in ice, an overdue Telegram that arcs chain lightning across the room, and a Care Package rocket launcher.

If you want pure nineties dark fantasy and spellcasting boomer shooters in the tradition of Heretic and Hexen, start with AMID EVIL ($19.99, free demo on Steam), Wizordum ($19.99, free demo on Steam, Windows and macOS), Hedon Bloodrite ($16.99, free demo on Steam, Windows and Linux) and WRATH: Aeon of Ruin ($24.99, Windows and Linux). If you want heavy medieval or occult weaponry in fast retro and modern arenas, play DOOM: The Dark Ages ($49.99), DUSK ($19.99), Forgive Me Father ($19.99) and Prodeus ($24.99). And if you want a 1930s rubber hose cartoon shooter where every weapon feels like an animated spell, try the free Steam demo or 60 second browser trial of my game Iron Curtain Call (out 11 March 2027).

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you want theatrical, spell like cartoon weapons in a fast single player FPS.

In Iron Curtain Call, I replaced realistic military loadouts with 1930s cartoon contraptions: The Telegram arcs chain lightning between wind up tin robots, The Snow Globe freezes squads solid so a single punch shatters them into springs, and The Diplomat shotgun clears rooms in one blast. Mission 1 is free on Steam for Windows, macOS and Linux, and a 60 second trial runs in your browser.

Why weird weapons win

Why imaginative projectiles beat hitscan rifles

In AMID EVIL, Wizordum, WRATH and Iron Curtain Call, weapons fire visible projectiles, lightning arcs or freezing blasts that interact with your movement and melee. That turns every room into a playground of combinations rather than a cover peeking gallery.
