The short answer

The nine games at a glance

When players clear Dharma Tower in Ghostrunner or slide through neon streets in Turbo Overkill, they often search for focused cyberpunk and sci fi first person shooters that keep the high speed dashes, cybernetic combat and dystopian machine cities without eighty hours of RPG inventory management. While building Iron Curtain Call as a solo developer in Istanbul, I flipped that machine state trope into 1965 cartoon noir: the country is ruled by an automated customer service computer called the Supreme Chancellor, and you fight through its robot army with dashes, grapples and parries.

If you want blistering cyberpunk movement shooters with wall running, air dashes and neon megacities, start with Ghostrunner ($29.99, free demo on Steam), Turbo Overkill ($19.99, free demo on Steam), SPRAWL ($14.99), Deadlink ($24.99, free demo on Steam) and Severed Steel ($24.99, free demo on Steam). If you want classic cyberpunk streets, rogue AI stations or gritty 1980s cyborg law enforcement, play Ion Fury ($24.99), System Shock ($39.99) and RoboCop: Rogue City ($39.99). And if you want a 1930s rubber hose cartoon take on a machine ruled police state, try the free Steam demo of my game Iron Curtain Call (out 11 March 2027).

Iron Curtain Call

My game

Play it if you want fast dashes, grapples and parries against a satirical 1965 AI regime.

In Iron Curtain Call, the rogue AI is not a neon hacker god; it is the Supreme Chancellor, a polite 1965 customer service mainframe that treats World War III as a support ticket. You dash, grapple and parry through twelve chapters of wind up tin robots. Mission 1 is free on Steam right now for Windows, macOS and Linux, and a 60 second browser trial runs at /play/.

Why rogue AI stories work in both cyberpunk and 1965 retrofuturism

Whether a machine state runs on neon implants like Ghostrunner and Turbo Overkill or on 1965 punch cards and loudspeaker bureaucracy like Iron Curtain Call, fighting an automated system gives every arena a sharp satirical edge.
